The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist have been safely administering anesthetics to patients since the 1950's and became credentialed as such beginning in 1956. CRNAs are the primary providers of anesthesia care in rural America allowing facilities to offer surgical, obstetrical and trauma stabilization. Studies show that anesthesia care today is 50 times safer than it was in previous years and that there is no difference in quality of care provided by the CRNA and their physician counterparts. The CRNA works in collaboration with anesthesiologists, surgeons and other healthcare professionals in many facilities as well.
